Update: I visited a Nokia Care point. They told me to keep the old, working firmware and offered to have a look at it in about 2 weeks (because their technician was on vacation). Then he would also flash the latest firmware and see what happens. What a surprise

Then i called the nokia hotline. They never heard of any problems with the update, but the guy said he will forward my request to a technician and get back to me.

Ah one more thing: The care-point guy said i should just wait for the next update lol. And he insisted, that the updates are not incremental. I said they are, unless you directly flash it via USB (which i have to to by using Vmware btw. because my OS is Win 7 64bit).

So in a nutshell: Why in the world does a 600€ device need that much attention? I just want to use it!

Cheers, WD...

the rule of thumb with people who aren't the technichians don't really know the details. they usualy have a vague knowledge of nokia devices but as this is a completely different device then usual i'd wait for someone who actualy has knowhow to answer my questions.
Have you got anything from extra's devel or extra's testing installed? did you install any custom themes? have you modified any files?
If you answer yes to any of those then thats most likely the problem. Nokia does not cover any 3rd party apps bricking the device so make sure you check that before you give it to their care point technician.

I agree, but it can be fun to ask them

Its not actually bricked. On the old firmware it still works. And no to all questions. I even reset the device to factory default before updating. You know, with the introduction video and no contacts. Thats why i think that the device is responsible. However, i'll wait for Noki's response.

unfortunately, in situations like this it really could be the hardware, BUT (and this is what I've experienced in most of my IT career) most of the times, the user installed or did something, forgot about it, and as a result junk gets messed up.

Over 90% of the problems I've had to address, could have been avoided has the users actually read the prompts and information given to them.

Just saying... I hope it turns out to be something easy.

I had the same reboot loop problem, solved by reflashing to PR1.1 via Flasher. This is what you get from having devel and testing enabled.

wongdong: As suggested here, use the Ubuntu LiveCD method.

Edit:

It's now working correctly?

Did you read my post on Page 1?

Did you use RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin or another image?
and di you flash the RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin?

i need help too.

i updated my n900 this morning then the screen went blank.

i left it for a couple of minutes and looked at it, still blank. so i left it for a couple more minutes but still blank.

after that i turned it off, powered it on.

NOKIA logo showed up followed by the loading animation circles, after that..

BLANK.

ive been trying too flash the phone using: maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.exe on windows XP.

with firmware: RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin

USB icon appears on top right of screen, but nothing happens after i start the command: flasher-3.5.exe -F (insert file name here) -f -R

what am i doing wrong?
is the USB notification balloon; "USB device not installed properly, your hardware might not work etc etc..." causing this?

I used the one marked with "Second release" and the correct geographical area.

Did you battery-reset it then hold "u" button on the hardware keyboard while plugging it into the computer?

if you put RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin isntead of (insert file name here) at least the command is correct

For the flasher you have to remember 2 things:
- It does not work under 64 bit Operating Systems
- The phone must be in production mode (not development mode). According to your description it is correctly set to production mode. maybe you forgot to press "u" on the keyboard while pluggin it in?
