How long does it take you guys to get a lock outside, without tall buildings around you, clear sky and, most important, while remaining still ? That is really important, you need a clear view of the sky !

Try GPSJinni. This application allow to see how many satellite your N900 get a signal from and how "clear" said signal is.

When i turn on Ovi Maps and i go to GPS Position its blanked and i can not click it. In the center of the bottom on the display is a "Looking for GPS" and after a few seconds it type "No GPS Signal"

So i think the GPS doesnt work without a Wi-Fi or GPRS connection... But i really don't hope so!

Any help about how the GPS works...

PP - I have a map downloaded from ovi maps for my country!

EDIT: When the Network positioning is off ,the GPS icon (location) is crossed with a red line in the OviMaps!

Hi DaAntwan, this is a known problem. Actually OVI Maps gives up the searching of the satellites too soon and this results in the impossibility to get a lock without assisted GPS and, obviously, network. You should read the proper bug report and vote for it:

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5337

If you have troubles in using Bugzilla, feel free to ask here please.

Actually there are some apps able to get a valid GPS lock without AGPS, e.g. maep, eCoach; however they still need network for downloading maps. You should wait for some Maps upgrade, or for the new Sygic navigator software.
