40 posts and not a single solution posted (but a program on its way...)

does the app fit your needs and no further brainstorm is needed?

No, the key is LIRC, which is the base of IRreco. In addition, I cleaned up that listed Nikon DSLR and edited it to have only one, but a precise, shutter command :-D

I would say its functional and does what I wanted.

I know others are looking for a Canon Rebel version now, and that one person wants a script or something so that you can add a delay before the command is executed.

I would think it to be only good things if we added more functionality to the program as long as it keeps its simplicity.

For instance if you an open a configuration menu and select your remote type (toggle between nikon and cannon for instance) but still its only a 1 press desktop widget I would be happy. If we started to make it this GUI based program where you need to choose delay or something or boot into any kind of application before it can execute then I think it would have lost its core purpose.

I do personally think the delay feature is a tad redundant since the camera body itself will have that feature already on it, but having more options is usually a good thing. Especially if it can be scripted to take a shot every X seconds/minutes until the device is told to stop. This way you can use it as one of those time laps devices by splicing all your images together in a video.

Not all cameras have the intervalometer option .. in such cameras you would have to buy an external device for the purpose you rightly mentioned .. and yes, making an open source version of this, would give it a lot more flexibility and tweakability as opposed to the in-built solution provided by the vendor ..

Well done! I just read your next proposal .
Please use this thread and your brainstorm for further development brainstorming (dont stop working on your app within this thread, please...). You may change the title of the brainstorm item, I will change it here afterward.

Thanks for your time and work!

Works wonderfully with my D80, indeed needed reboot to start working after install.

Does `shutter` have the ability to be conf driven? e.g. is there a way to specify a non nikon config from:
http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/

in ~/.shutter/ or something?

(yeah, canon )

Yes, the reboot can be needed if this is the first python-based widget that gets installed on your system. It's due to a bug/issue in one of the underlying libraries.

Technically, there is. Just download the .deb and analyze, it's very simple. One file, two lines in the code.
Or you wait a few days more and I will try to ready a more flexible variant :-)

Confirm: works fine on D90.

Install, REBOOT, turn on your DSLR in remote control (Quick Response) mode and shoot!

It is verry impressive. 10x dude!
