I installed mixxx.This is a DJ Software. No matter what i tested,the sound is choppy. Is this because of the slow fremantle, or could there be a audio problem ?

After it closes, you have a ctrl-up arrow shortcut in Maemo which toggles the maximization of windows. This is useful when you open debian programs from Maemo and like to get rid of the title bar to leave more space to the application window.

Any one knows how to get out of the OpenOffice Navigator?

Qole a few tidbits from testing this new version.

For reasons I can't figure out, after the update the gconf/ and gconf2xsettings.d/ directories disappeared from my chroot... regardless, it was easy enough to restore them. But even after this, "debbie gnumeric" generates a sleuth of GCONF errors... however it does come up ok eventually. Abiword, kchmviewer and oowriter did not generate any such messages, though.

Regarding the Ctrl-Up sequence to toggle fullscreen, it works as expected. But there are some side effects. Abiword in particular suffers... when switching the screen isn't quite refreshed properly... worst, after returning from fullscreen, some of the application menus refuse to open... sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

Another strange problem with Abiword, and independent from switching it into fullscreen, is that when moving vertically via the arrow keys a trail of spurious vertical bars is left on the screen... doing any operation that refreshes the screen gets rid of these droppings.

Gnumeric and kchmviewer, when switched to/from fullscreen don't suffer from screen lossage but suffer from some of their menus refusing to open... Open Office writer, when subjected to the same test behaved well as far as I could tell and did not exhibit any of these problems.

I know, you have warned us that the preferred way to runs apps is within LXDE and that may well prove to be the reliable way.

When launching xbindkeys from its desktop icon, why does it take so long... it opens an empty window with a spinning little wheel atop and seems to take forever vs doing a debbie xbindkeys from an xterm.

Using the Easy Debian version from Extras (not devel), I have successfully installed a number of packages: cups, djview, evince, grace, gv.

Emboldened, I also installed xmaxima, a symbolic math program that uses tk8.4. However, while maxima, the terminal version, works, the x-windows version had two problems: firstly, the font was microscopic, and trying to enhance it in the preferences dialog had no effect. Secondly, while I could type in my math expressions, I could not evaluate them simply because the Return key, and only that, did not work!!?

EDIT: I could choose different fonts when starting xmaxima within LXDE instead of through debbie, but the problem with the Return key remains. Any idea anyone what the cause could be? Tk? And how to evade that?

SOLUTION: Hey, I figured it out myself . Looking at the output of xmodmap -pke, I saw that keycode 36 was KP_Enter instead of Return! So
in a terminal before starting xmaxima is the solution for my problem. Why on earth was that set to KP_Enter?

How do you go about doing this? would it mean just basically unpacking the content of the ext2 image onto a partition on a memory card?

Actually, if there is a way to resize the image file id prefere to do that cos then i could resize it to say 5gb or something and leave it happily in MyDocs on the device memory. is there a program you know of that can do this? spent a good hour or so googling last night but had no real results.

oh and one more thing... this definatelt executes at least some stuff faster than maemo. dosbox for instance, had win3.1 installed as a proof of concept thing. ran verrrrry slow under maemo but when i fired it up in lxde it was so much faster perhaps even 3 or 4 times more responsive!

When I start OOo straight from Maemo, if I open the Navigator, I cannot close it. gwj gave a possible solution to this here:

The solution consists of mapping the windows control menu to "Alt + Space" by the use of this command:

xmodmap -e "keysym ISO_Level3_Shift = Alt_L"

It works perfectly when used in a Terminal under LXDE, but I haven't been able to figure out how to execute it for OOo when used outside LXDE. Is it possible?

@rm42: unfortunately the Maemo 5 default window manager doesn't move windows (so far). For Maemo 4 there was an hack, but here I bet it won't be found
