Howard Chui releases probably the first review of the commercial version of the Nokia 770. His verdict:

I`ll be honest, my first impression when I saw the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet was that it looked pretty useless. It`s designed by Nokia yet it isn`t a phone. It looks like a PDA but lacks PIM functionality. What good is an internet tablet wh...

Sounds like he enjoyed using Opera. That was the main thing lacking from Palms and PocketPCs.

I bet more of these surprised people will enjoy the device.

Relax guys. I've seen worse reviews. I thought Howard's review was a mere summary of the Nokia 770. It's somewhat lacking since I think Howard is not a big PPC/Palm OS user and thus some topics like connectivity, application installation, etc. weren't even covered.

Let's be constructive here guys. Try to focus on the internet tablets and not on each other and we'll be fine. The last thing this site wants to become is another PIC.

I see Reggie censored my comment. That stinks.

If *you* are satisfied with such low-content dross, then perhaps this isn't the site for you. I expect the word "review" to be a precursor to *depth*. That "review" was as light as a feather -- and also for the birds. Peep, peep. More birdssed?

Updating this controversy.

Following a link today, I wound up back at Howard's site, where he reviews the new Moto Rockr and provides a preview of the now-delayed Nokia N91.

It's clear that Howard *can* do an in-depth review, as he did with the Rockr. With the N91, he made it clear it was a proto unit and thus a preview.

I wish he'd made some similar distinction with the 770 write-up.
