I've got an N900 on the T-Mobile data-only plan (Total Internet, $40/month). I don't have a voice plan (I'm using SIP instead).

Is there anyway to disable the contact/phone apps menu prompts for calling via a phone plan? (I'd also like to disable SMS as well as I use Google Voice for SMS via e-mail.)

It's especially frustrating as the phone will default to the voice plan if I'm trying to return a DID-inbound SIP call.

Basically, I'd like the contacts/phone app to provide e-mail/SIP/etc, but not to include the voice-plan relevant options.

Any ideas?

There is an app in testing I think it is that will allow you to enable/disable just cellular service.

Via wifi, yes, but disabling the cellular signal will also disable cellular data. So you will not stay on cellular networks.

I'm mostly interested in removing the contextual contact menu items while maintaining my 3G connectivity.

Does anyone have any information on how to accomplish that?

Id like to have this ability too. Like a way to set the default sms carrier so you could use iether your carriers or google sms.

I think you're referring to my Cellular Modem Control Buttons - its already in Extras :-) See my sig for more information.

Sadly, it is of no help in this case, as it completely turns off the cellular. I think what you ask is way too specific and internal thing in Phone app so 3rd party app can't fix it for you :/

I suggest you file a bug against call-ui and request they add support for selecting default service for calling and SMS.

One of the ways items register with the Phone and Conversations is ".profile" files. There is one of Cell. There is the possibility that removing that file will take care of this for you.

Code:
/usr/share/osso-rtcom/tel.profile
Note I have no idea what ill effects removing that file will cause.

I'm actually looking into doing the same thing with Skype. How do I make it so that my calls get routed to Skype by default?

@kaput: How did you set up your SIP service, and are you able to make calls to and receive calls from regular phones?
