This is very annoying to me - several times during the day that I open n900 and my desktop is in a middle of customization mode with several icons shifted and missing. When I carry my phone in a pocket, the screen gets unlocked.

Is there a way to disable activating desktop customization from the desktop (clicking the desktop background)?

I second that. It keeps annoying me as well.

It's not that you want to rearrange the desktop icons 15 times a day. Why not hide the customization mode somewhere deeper in the menu?

Install the latest modified-hildon-desktop (see my signature for details).

To disable desktop editing:

gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/key-actions/disable_edit -t boolean true
To enable desktop editing:

gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/key-actions/disable_edit -t boolean false
