I think the current behaviour is fine. For example if you want to start a new MSN conversation with your friend and you first clear the old one, it would be annoying if the window closed and you had to open it again. It takes only one click to close it if you want after the clear, but if it would close automatically, it would take a few clicks to open again.

So I think that more harm to the user would be done if it closed automatically. But maybe there could be a setting for this so everybody could set it to suite ones own needs.

Agreed that it should be an option, but Nokia have a peculiar hostility to Maemo customisation. They won't even let you customise the application menu.

It's not clear cut. In my opinion, this would be a completely unexpected behaviour. Just like when the OMWeather window vanishes when you tap the "Update" button - plain weird and quite scary at first (you think you've done something wrong).

What would be good though would be to allow third party applications to customize this behaviour. Users who want to have the window close automatically could then choose to have it.

"It does exactly what it says on the label", you asked it to clear the conversation and it did what you asked! - what is the complaint?
What you want is another option to delete the conversation and return you to the main conversation window (this would be the solution IMHO). Currently you need to return to the main conversation window and long press the conversation and then select the delete option, but, if you just wish to remove an old conversation that has been and gone before starting a new one; then the current option works as expected.

I really think an "I don't care" option should be added :|
