If you send me one of those fantastic n900s!
I'd really like to contribute, but I'm just a poor linux user who cannot afford such a phone.
Nokia could give n900 for free to people who make good apps to be more competitive than apple!

... but if you were any good as a developer then you'd be able to afford one. It's a very clever ploy by Noia to keep the riff-raff out.

i think they'll need more convincing than just a forum post
maybe try linking to your past linux work etc

You don't need a real phone for development.
To do it you need just the SDK. ;-)

Many people got a free N900. Even prototypes. But they first wrote cool applications - then they got rewarded.
You can do a lot with the SDK already.

what apps would you make?

if you are based in the US, there is a Push N900 US based competition just opened which is looking for people to come up with innovative hardware hacks involving the n900.

put a small team together with a proposal and enter, winners get assisted funding and obviously hardware to bring their ideas to life on.
