It's meaningless and irritating having to listen to it each time I boot the phone.

I tried by deleting the line filename=Hands-v32-h264.avi in /etc/hildon-welcome.d/default.conf but nothing changed.

Commenting out that line in /etc/hildon-welcome.d/default.conf worked for me. Since editing the file doesn't appear to have worked for you, you can try moving/deleting/renaming the file /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/Hands-v32-h264.avi.

Now it worked!

I removed my backup file located in the same directory.
I also had a new line + cr in the orig file which I removed (this prolly had nothing to do with it).

Thanks!

I installed the lovely 'maemo.org' boot video instead. Much nicer!

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

I found it in one of the respositories. I confess I can't remember which one - I suspect I was playing with the big boys where I shouldn't have been at the time, but I thought I'd give it a go. It's almost worth turning off for.
