If you've got rootsh installed, you can use "apt-get remove" from X Terminal to uninstall them (you'll need to know the actual package name though, rather than the display name). If you've been installing from the command-line, you might also find "apt-get clean" will free up some space.

Try disabling extras-testing and extras-devel repo's to see if that frees up some memory. If that doesn't work, flashing would be the solution.

I could be wrong, but I think your phone goes back to factory state if you flash the emmc as well; flashing the firmware leaves the settings untouched.

If you're going to flash, might as well flash the phone back to factory state so you start with a clean slate.

Make a back up before flashing

disable extras and development repositories and reboot your n900. Uninstall softwares that you do not use.
