Did I hose the N800 or can I just reflash it and lose everything I installed (this is a crappy solution..how to backup a full install and restore it? not just the things in "/home/user"??)

Installing everything piece by piece is a pain...there just aren't enough 1-click installers out there for the various apps, and garage.maemo.org tries...but it really isn't that great of a download resource yet...

I've never been able to get magic.sys to install. Guess it's a good thing I haven't. Sorry to hear the bad news though.

alrighty then...

reflashed, no luv...manually installed .debs to get xterm back..and this is the output from apt-get update with ONLY the default nokia repo enabled.

Hit http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com bora Release.gpg
Hit http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com bora Release
Err http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com bora/user Packages 302 Redirect [IP: 72.246.51.73 80]

Reading package lists...Done
W: Couldn't stat source package list http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com bora/user Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com_certified_dists_bora _user_binary-armel_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Hope this can help shed some light on where/what I can do to fix this AM issue.

looking in /var/lib/apt/lists/

could someone please compare what they have in that directory with a functional AM please?

I merely have catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com_certified_dists_bora _Release
and catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com_certified_dists_bora _Release.gpg
lock
partial

(lock and partial are empty)

and if what you have there is different if you could kindly upload the files, I'll try and swap out mine with yours and see if that fixes the issue.

Thx,

ahh was a lovely configuration change in the 'airport' that a teacher failed to notify us about...thus routing us through the content filter that dis-allows downloads...

what a wild-goose-chase..

Heh, the last airport base station I found in a classroom I forcedly removed from the wall. We don't allow teachers installing their own network equipment in the schools.
