I think it didn't like having Tweakr installed.
Could you please raise a bug?

I'm sorry, I don't understand. Catorise doesn't run, all it does is:
  • On first install, gather package information on everything and rewrite /etc/xdg/menus/hildon.menu
  • When installing another application, adds it explicitly to the correct section in /etc/xdg/menus/hildon.menu.

Could you please raise a bug with reproduction instructions and the exact behaviour you're seeing?

it didnt have the "bug"...
Only 0.7.3 (in Extras-testing) has this workaround to #8111.

You can edit /opt/catorise/menu as root, the format should be self-explanatory (a GUI is a future possibility). However, apart from the Ovi apps and the pre-installed apps, everything is given the section that their author decided it should be in. This is the same section that the package appears in in the Application Manager and maemo.org Downloads.

Yes, Ovi doesn't provide any categorisation API. A future version will query a web service.

Raise bugs against those pacakges - if is up to those packages' authors where they go.

Could you please raise a bug, attaching your /opt/catorise/menu and /etc/xdg/menus/hildon.menu files (if possible) and stating what version of Catorise you have.

You will see multiple copies of the "main" apps (Phone etc.) in the "Add shortcut" dialogue; some are viewing this as a feature :-)

Catorise does just what I had been looking for. I'm just waiting for a nice GUI editor to allow some tweaking. e.g. have some apps that are not in the category folders so that they can be clicked immediately (sort of like the "MySelection" section of the 770/n8x0 app menu)
Decided to try MyMenu again...
Works great! It has the 'My Selection' type row of icons at the top that I wanted... (I would put the 'Web' icon there instead of 'Calendar', but that is just me)

Some groupings are better in Mymenu, but there are a lot more in the 'other' group.

I'm still hoping for a nice drag--drop gui like the previous maemo versions had for organizing apps.

I am using the original menu structure.

When you are using for couple of months you can get used to it.

I used to use both - MyMenu and Catorise, but didn`t found it is useful for me. Also there is a small delay in menu opening, which I do not prefer at all.

Best regards.

If this is Catorise 0.7.3 (in Extras-testing), I've reworked the optimisations to reduce the amount of time added to package install/uninstall.

0.7.4 will include that fix after some internal testing.

Bug sent!

Am looking forward to next release - actually, having to flash wasn't a bad experience and I knew I'd have to eventually. It pays to have backups

On a side note, now we know how to organise the menu based on the freedesktop information, wouldn't it be possible to learn how to change the multiple desktop structure? (See the earlier propoasal topic for 9 desktops!).

I tried to look at the freedesktop site but could not figure out how to do this....

Any comments?

I wasn't aware of any evidence (I haven't looked) that the multiple desktops were implemented using a fd.o spec. If you can point me at something...

well, I'm not actually sure if it is according to a fo spec, but as the menu sytem is I assumed the desktop management would be too...
