I had been searching for an easy way to wirelessly transfer files between my N900 and my PC. I have Tversity media server installed on my pc and have been using it to wirelessly stream video, audio, and pictures from my pc to an xbox 360. I was surprised the first time I turned on my N900's media player and saw that it automatically found the tversity server, as well as my playon server, and the files being shared by windows media player. I selected each server and tested out whether or not they would be able to stream the media on my pc to the N900. The audio worked every time without fuss. The video was more of a mixed bag, some worked, some didn't. I wasn't too concerned about it as I had no plans to watch streaming video on my local network anyways. Photos also displayed well.
I was surpised to find out that in addition to streaming with tversity, I also was able to transfer files from my pc to the N900 wirelessly over my home network with it. To do this, simply open the n900's built in file manager and instead of selecting nokia n900, select shared media. This should bring you to a list of all available media servers. I selected tversity, then found a file I wanted. If you click the file or folder you want and hold it for 2 or 3 seconds, you then get the option to copy, move, etc... Just copy, and then it will ask you were you want to copy to. This time select n900 and the appropriate location to put it and then push the "copy" button at the top of the window. That was it. The transfer was quick and painless.
For information on setting up tversity, which is available in both a free and paid version, just go to tversity.com. All of this was done using the free version.
