My N900's media player has developed another mystery disease...
Whenever I click on a song, it'll take me to the "play" screen, but with no album art, and right hand side of the screen (where the album tracks would be listed) is completely blank. And obviously, nothing is playing.
When I try and play a video, the screen just goes blank for 20 seconds or so, then returns to the video selection menu.

Is there some terminal wizardry that can fix this? I've had my N900 a month and have already had to reflash twice. Getting fed up of installing all my apps/setting up my desktop over and over...

Hi Adam,

first of all, if you use the provided backup program, which is installed on the N900 out of the box, you do not have to setup everything. It restores all settings and reinstalls all programs, which is automated in case they come from repositories (which they should do anyway).
I am doing a backup like every day (at least before and after changes). After reflashing a restore and reinstall takes minutes. All settings, connections, desktops, contacts, mail accounts etc. should be restored.

Regarding your problem, you *could* try typing 'tracker-processes --hard-reset' as root in x-term. This resets the tracker-db.

Did you install extra-decoders-support from extras-devel (caveats apply)?

Best regards,
Corwin

I had that problem after installing and then removing Subtitles support. When I installed it again, problem gone.

Thanks Corwin, I never knew the backup app was that good.
One problem though, I now hate myself.
I installed, then removed subtitles support like mivoligo, and i've just reflashed and halfway through downloading my old apps again.

Oh well, whats done is done.

Nevermind, just make a backup once you are done.
Plus a fresh start is never bad, every now and then

Best regards,
Corwin

I couldn't find any bug report - have you filed one?

Otherwise issues don't get magically fixed... :-P
