What functionality do you need to be exposed via D-Bus?
Signals about Stop/Pause/Play, track info and track changed, seeking signals and methods to play, pause, stop, switch to next and switch to previous. That's all at the moment. Maybe volume control...

Been using MediaBox extensively for past few weeks now and I thought I'd give my +'s and -'s here for some creative discussion perhaps. And don't take this wrong, it is the best audio player for the N900 currently since the built in is just mindbogglingly screwed up and everything else I tried lacked some basic functionality.

+ Folder playing
+ Playlist creation
+ Calling FM boost to up the transmitting level
- Bloated with features for my using purposes (Mp3-playing)
- Slow to load up (could be due bloat issues? I have auto-index off so it ain't that)
- Cryptic GUI (for real, accessing basic stuff is behind oh so many levels of choices, I want to open the player and hit play to continue precisely from where I left off instead of going home, selecting folder/playlist , browsing for a song from the list and then finally hitting play, then going top menu to enable FM transmitter (when I'm in my car) and clicking broadcast on)

This led me to hope for a UI revamp OR a spinoff version, call it "AudioBox" or whatever, but a stripped down version which would directly open into the last used playlist or folder and magnified playing buttons in the main screen, and the ability to see few previous/next tracks and easily toggle FM transmitter on/off. It would all fit perfectly on the N900 screen but as is the humongous note button is just taking all the space and little buttons are placed on the edges of the screen.

I could photoshop a few suggestions of the creator of MediaBox is interested in this type of spinoff and/or GUI revamp?

It's actually quite modular, and could be stripped down to the point of only playing music. I'm thinking of some configurator for slimming down based on what the user wants. Something like this.

Code:
Choose what MediaBox shall do for you:
[X] Play music
[ ] Play video
[ ] Show images
[X] Manage playlists
[ ] Browse filesystem
[ ] Browse UPnP/DLNA devices
When not loading the unwanted components, startup time will get a bit faster, too.

I totally agree with redi: I don't watch movies on my N900 because of the "tiny" screen size and I don't watch movies through my N900 because of the poor video-out-signal ... so I'd love AudioBox - but with included UPnP functions ;-)
redi's handling suggestions are quite interesting as well. And here's another "feature request":
how about adding shoutcast servers by the users themselves ... by courtesy of typing the server adresses manually? There are some inofficial SC-streams, you know? :-D

This option would be great just because it'll use probably half the battery power to use. The main problem right now is that mediabox drains my battery twice as fast as the default maemo 5 media player...

I've started using this also as Standard media player on the N900 is really weird.
This player has a great interface and actually sees all my music files properly!

I got some noobish questions about the media box:

1. Is it possible to have a desktop widget for media box?
(like the media player widget)

2. Is it possible to have an equalizer?

I'm going through the thread but it's quite a lot to read through. =)
