The relevant of a response is not measured by it's grasp of the English language, IMO.

NO RESEARCH should include unique ringtones - this became a basic functionality in every cell phone Nokia has produced in the last 10 years

hopefully in the next release they will fix the bugs that they introduced in the last one lol.

And maybe they (and apps from on here) will be better tested instead of implementing half baked and not fully tested apps.

Just because its an open source device doesn't mean I want apps (or Nokia f/w updates!) that upset other aspects of the phone (random portrait mode for example).

I am quite frankly amazed at some of the dev work that goes on here. Its simply brilliant and beyond my capabilities, however making sure its fully tested and doesn't introduce further issues is key.

It is an interesting point, should we just assume every device is equal or actually be forced to research every little thing about it before buying?

I'm not sure, I certainly do not think Nokia have lied in any way, but likewise I do not think they have exactly been honest either. Its more a case of conveniently failed to mention its weak spots. That said, my old phone SE Xperia X1 also had some pretty major weak spots so its by no means a Nokia exclusive issue and at least the N900 does what I expected of it, something the Xperia never did.

I was surprised to find Carphone Warehouse pusing the N900 with big adverts, knowing its weaknesses as a phone. But then Carphone Warehouse also sell games consoles, laptops and netbooks, so you could argue again people should really do their research before assuming "its a phone". That said, if you look at their website they got the N900 specs totally wrong claiming it has 1GB application memory (either storage or RAM its incorrect, as you can't count virtual memory), voice dialling, input jack, WAP, etc.

One thing that I started realizing after using Maemo is that the US is simply a port of desktop os. I use bluetooth streaming constantly in my car. The first step of going to BT devices is ok. Then as you go deeper you're presented with a menu that's not finger friendly at all. In my opinion once you press BT devices, you should be presented with large icons that you can press with your finger....not a list that's so tiny that can only be accessed with ones nail. There are multiple quirks in the OS. Hopefuly Maemo 6 will be better. Everyone (at least on this forum) knew what they were getting so don't complain. It will get better.

I always rage when people use the "its not a phone" argument to excuse the N900's lack of basic phone features.

Go to Nokia's own website http://shop.nokia.com/n900 and you'll see this

Oh look, its a phone! Now stop saying it's an internet tablet with phone functionality. It is a phone, its marketed as a phone, the manufacturer's website calls it a phone.

Now that we know its a phone, we may now complain about its lack of basic phone features.

Doesn't matter weather it's phone or a tablet.

The point is:

The missing features like calling *100# to get to know how much money is on your card or to be able to edit the numbers before dailing would have been such an easy easy easy easy job for such a phone-producing-experienced company like nokia. THEY JUST DIDN'T DO IT!
