Hello all,

I've successfully gotten Epocrates on my GVM, and that has been the single most important application on my N900. However, I have tried several times and failed to install Pepid and would love some help.

Could somebody cast an eye on Pepid and see if they can get it installed? Here's my status so far:
  1. I successfully downloaded the files from the Pepid OTA installation page
  2. I tried three paths, all failing
    • Install using the GVM "install" button
    • Install from a windows box with hotsync over the network
    • Copying all files from a working installation on my palm device
  3. The closest to success appears to be installing with hotsync, and then playing around in the vm a bit.

Any ideas on how to proceed? I'm happy to put a $100 USD bounty on anybody getting this working, to be sent via paypal once proved on an N900.

I could probably help you on this.

I quickly looked over the installation process and it seems "simple" enough.

I'll be free around 2:30 am E.S.T. (about an hour and a half from now) if you're up for a chat.

Otherwise I won't be available again until next weekend but I'm sure someone else would be willing to help you before then.

Sounds great! Feel free to pm me how to contact you. Otherwise, if you want to do the install and describe how you did it, that's good enough for me!

tarek and I tried to get this working last night but came up short.

Here's the error we got.

ERROR - GVM HALErrDisplay: [MemoryMgr.c, Line:3983, Invalid chunk ptr]

Anyone here have an idea on how to problem solve for this?

I'm launching with this command.

/usr/bin/gvm/gvm -a Pepd -z 1 -O no -L 0x0000,0x0000,0x0000 -f no -d 8192

Contact us at support@pepid.com and we can attempt to assist you further.

Edit: No promises and please give us detailed information on what apps are being used and any other information you feel is important.

Just to post an update, I still don't have PEPID working. I sent this message to the support agent most recently:

Hi Justin!

As it happens, there is a Garnet VM for x86, which works in Ubuntu for sure, as well as I think windows and OSX. I actually wasn't successful getting it to do interesting things, but I was able to get it to boot.. To get it, go here:

http://www.accessdevnet.com/index.ph...-category.html

The support for it is pretty poor though, I'll say.

The rest of the items you mentioned are answered within the body of your message.

In which country do you live? Maybe I can arrange for you to get an N810 or N900 to test this.

I have installed both OTA and via hotsync. The preferred method for me is to have one prc/pdb (both work) that then goes and grabs the rest OTA, such as with epocrates' OTA setup. There is memory card access which works very well.

I don't fully understand the question, but as I understand it, the SD Card is treated exactly as one would be in any palm. It appears as "Slot1" through "Slot8" (depending on how many are configured)

> - By this, I am trying to determine how much free space the GVM has and if it sees the SD card as an option in available free space.
>

The GVM has up to 64MB of device memory and up to 8MB of dynamic heap, with an essentially unlimited SD size.

> - If the card is treated as a regular Palm card...do you see a Palm (or Palm> Launcher) folder on the root level of the SD Card...this may also be in a subfolder (GVM or the like) on the card, I am unsure how GVM treats the device's card.
>

Yes, there is a PALM / Launcher directory in there exactly as with a real palm SD card.

> If you are able to copy / execute files from the card, can you please visit www.pepid.com/zip (on your computer) and download the ED file. Extract the ZIP file content and find the PEPID Installer.prc file. Copy this file to the card...next on the GVM find and execute the PEPID Installer file.

Yes. It gives "warnings and limitations"; then "your unregistered suite will expire in 14 days"; then usually it crashes. Occasionally it's shown me the ED DB, but then it crashes when I click it.

The good news is that PEPID tech support is still working with me on the issue : ) I've offered them an n810 or n900 for development should they need it (depending on where they're located and if it's feasible). I didn't email the full response set too long ago, so hopefully we'll hear back soon with some progress..
