Really? Why? With both kmplayer and SiB, all the standard keyboard shortcuts for mplayer works fine.
Pause/Play (spacebar), arrow keys for 10sec or 1min forward/back etc. Never had them not working.
kmplayer also has on-screen touch controls for pause/seek.
But I prefer SiB's easier selection of videos I have.
Make sure you have latest version of both.

Not the OP but wanted to comment.
Why make a GUI when the command line works just fine
Then again I am pretty old school when it comes to any *nix enviroment.
