Hello,

I have a meeting tomorrow which is to develop innovation within a large insurance organisation. I have an idea for an app which I personally think would be quite useful and wondered if anyone can help me develop some very very rough screens.

I know nothing of programming in any language really and would really have to rely on everyones very kind input and help.

The idea:
Open App, you see a main screen split with 6 buttons:
Quote Me, Car Only, Home Only, Health Only, Travel Only, Pet Only.

If you open any of the last 5, it will show a list of questions with a basic form specific to that insurance type. If you open the first one, it will ask the questions asked in all of the other 5 but you can select yes or no to the insurance type.

At the end, there is a submit button which will send the information in the form to an email address. This will eventually generate an overall quote that will come back to the app.

Can anyone help develop some screens for me to demonstrate please?? I've no idea what else is needed and would really appreciate feedback, help or anything.

I can pay with loads of graditude.

Finally, do people think this might be a useful app?

Thanks,

Wes

Do you need to demo the app or just show images? If images just photoshop something?

I was thinking I may photoshop some images for tomorrow actually. But it would be great to demo the screens at some point. I think it would be a lot to ask to have something installed on my phone in the next 15 hours!!
Time to dust off Photoshop me thinks! Thanks

As the basis for the screens you could download the SDK and make something really basic? I'm not sure if the SDK has an IDE along the lines of Visual Basic - if so then this would require no coding to make a sample application.

Or otherwise run any app on the phone with bottons and menus, take some screen shots (ctrl+shift+p) and then edit from there.

If you only have about 14 hours left, this thred alleges to get you up and running in 30 minutes.

It will take you longer since you aren't simply doing hello world, but designer is straight forward enough that it is easy to get a hang of without programming experience, especially if you've ever played with VisualBasic or netbeans.

update:
Figured you might need some documentation to point you in the right direction:

Qt Designer Overview
Widgets and Layouts Overview

Just an idea but how about an simple web application and view it through the browser?, if you have access to a server and can do html/php you could knock up a good looking and fully functional app in a very short time. and it would be accessible from your n900 or any hardware with a browser.

Thanks Jamiefuller. That was another idea but we have a mass of various pure web based methods for our company. Recently we have launched out first iPhone App AXAdent through Swiftcover which enables you to progress and submit a motor claim immediately.
We have also launched Stuck, again through Swiftcover and again on the iPhone platform.
My idea was to pitch an idea for an N900 app as Nokia is a huge market and a step in this direction would be great. My idea is not an official one the company are taking, just more of an idea I'd like to pitch at an Innovation Workshop coming soon with out Chief Exec.
The head of innovation at Swiftcover has already acknowledged the progression of moving towards N900/Maemo apps after they have ported Stuck to Android and believes Nokia is definately a big market for them so are hopefully going to ensure this is their next move.
Personally, I have a load of ideas for innovation within the company, I just don't have any skills to develop an app for the N900!!
Cheers everyone
