The 2nd screenshot is what I called the "desktop notification." But I think my point is moot now since after a 3rd reboot all the notification texts are black, and staying black after more reboots. They look great. (The long bar notifications are also good.) Thanks.

That must be it; I've noticed similar problems with these notificaitons using other themes.

The notifications that are inside a long bar that fills the entire screen from left to right are fine, the text is black (or it's supposed to be).
Edit: just to make sure; are these okay on your device (the yellow ones):
