Speaking of warranty... I'm having a big problem with my N900 and had a special deal with Nokia -- privileged to have a one-week warranty. Now of course it's more than one week. I hope I can get as good a deal from Nokia as someone in this thread. He got one N900 (prerelease) free, and when it broke, he got (I bet not a prerelase version) a replacement. I paid for my first, so I hope I can get a replacement (If I need it, I'm still trying).

Edit: I fixed it!

Message to engadget.com:
Hello! since you are one major site out there covering news around the N900, maybe you want to pick up on this. everything you hear out there about the N900 is pretty positive. though what recently happened to me and to an increasing number of nokia customers is just incredible.
while plugging and unplugging the regular charger carefully without using any force the microUSB port of the N900 breaks off and comes out together with the charger plugg. on maemo talk there is already a thread with 30+ pages. you can read some about it here:

thanks for your support, im looking forward to hearing from you!

please feel free to forward this to any major news site that might pick up on this!

Ok, count me in. It happened to me too. The port came out with the cable while trying to connect for charging.

I hope I'll get it replaced. Wish me luck.

Hi just a heads up
I am in the UK on a vodafone N900 :0) i've only had the fabulous phone for a day but love it and was very concerned by these reports on this forum so i contacted vodafone eforum mods and just recieved a phonecall confirming should this problem occur it absolutely will be covered by the vodafone warranty :0) I was very worried about this and was having to think seriously if its a known fault should i return the handset while i can in the next 7 days but now obviously I can keep my phone if vodafone will warranty it now yey!

Hi nappleton, welcome to the forums (first of many posts Im sure ) - glad to hear Vodafone have confirmed you are covered against this defect with their warranty, this will be of great comfort to those who have purchased from Vodafone directly

Hopefully we can get a few other companies to follow Vodafone on this one

It makes me sick to hear of so many of you having this problem. I guess it will probably happen to me as well at some point. So far it is OK. I am happy that I got the SquareTrade warranty which should cover this type of things. But, for those of you that don't have one, I really think that Nokia's standard warranty should.

Hi Kojacker,

Maybe Nokia will take the hint

Their replacement of our N900 with a duff microphone was sorted in under 10 days. So they can do it.

If the USB socket is only just surface mounted and relys on solder to retain it , then this is a design fault as solder is prone to plasctic deformation and will eventualy let go. All soldered joints must be independently supported and not subject to physical stress loading.

Simple job to replace the motherboard anyway.

Regards

Richard

That's good to hear from people who bought from Vodafone. If I was paranoid, though, I would prefer to see that in writing rather than relying on a phone call!

I'm quite happy with that had it been via 191 i'd be worried but it was the vodafone eforum customer service who have proven in everyway time and time again to be exemplary with their dealings and imformation given. Plus it's good to have not one but 2 names to quote should anything go wrong :0) as he checked it higher up first to ensure the correct info was given and i have it in an email lol

Hello nappleton! I'm also on the vodafone eForum, you may have spotted me!

I'm very pleased you've had that confirmed! After waiting for the N900 - and being thoroughly impressed with it - I'd hate for this fault to sadden my experience of the phone!!
