Please tell me - what I should make to have working navit?
I had a similiar problem when I installed navit from the Maemo repository. I downloaded an OSM-Bin map, installed the lib for the icons and enabled the osm mapset. Navit started without any error but no map was shown. I forgot to disable the mapset for userdefined maps. After having done that the map finally showed.
Maybe it'll help you as well?

Cheers,

ps: anyony knows where to find this png?

I have succesfully installed it from the repository and after editing navit.xml to include the openstreetmap i downloaded (netherlands) i got it to run with maps showing, only it consistenly crashes after random amount of time (usually within a minute or two). Has anyone had better luck (in terms of stability)? And what did you do to make it so (hear some launched it from xterminal)?

btw for those wanting to know how i did it:

step 1: install navit from repository (add new catalog if you do not have the testing repository: repository.maemo.org/extras-testing)
step 2: install openssh client and server from repository (standard)
step3: install winscp (just google this name to find this app) and connect to your n900. See this link for more info (it shows you alle system files with root access)
step 4: download a openstreet map here OR here and copy the bin file somewhere on your n900 (e.g. MyDocs/maps) using the winscp util
step 5: create a file named maps.xml in /home/user/.navit/maps.xml and add following line to it to point to you osm bin file (replace with your own path to the .bin map file):
<map type="binfile" enabled="yes" data="/home/user/sandermap.bin"/>

hope this helps some people...

this got my navit installation to work but as said: not stable and could only use the internal gui and not the gtk

Hi all!

I've compiled a version from latest SVN (ver 2982). This seems to run very stable. Also enabled is the garmin function, however I couldn't get it working. I might have a locked map or something.

Please observe that this package is far away from perfect. It's not completely optified (locales and some small files go to /usr/share). Also I didn't bother to put files in separate packages (main exec and data files), instead the whole bunch is in a single package. If you want to try it out, you should uninstall all navit*.deb packages.

It runs stable on my n900, but if yours break down, what a shame...You have been warned. I use the .xml files found in this thread.

Here's the package http://rapidshare.com/files/36010077...armel.deb.html

goodluck!

Hi !
I installed navit on my n900 with openstreetmap.
Part of the interface however is missing. I use the internal interface. After tapping on the map, I do get the menu, and I can use the functions. There are however no icons.
In screenshots i see that, when using the menu, on top there is a menubar, where one can choose between map and menu. This menubar is missing. So, there is no way back to the map.

Probably it is something in the navit.xml file, but I can't find what I have to change.

did you copy over the navitOSD.xml as well as the navit.xml file? It needs to be in the same place.

They are both linked from the maemo page on the navit wiki.

Hi! If icons are missing, you need to install librsvg2-common, as mentioned somewhere in this thread.

thanks ! installing librsvg2-common did the trick.

Next question is: the zoom in and zoom out buttons still are missing. In navit.xml they were enabled.

I am really very glad with this program. I have been waiting for Sygic or Ovi map 3 for months now, and this wonderful navit program can do the job ! And i do like work in progress !
