This thread is absolutely ridiculous. This is the single most uneducated thing I've seen on the forums.
I love how everyone in this thread is volunteering someone elses time towards developing an application.
People make petitions for something that they have power over, such as political decisions in a democracy. For any of you to assume that you have any amount of power over the life of the developer(s) of Shazam is disgusting and shows how much you people expect things to be given to you. Grow up.

Think of it this way, the people signing this application are interested in the program, and may pay for it if brought to the N900.

Shazam is not something you can expect from the community. Even if there were people in this community with the necessary knowledge about the noise pattern matching algorithms, we would still lack the database of patterns.

Just as an FYI, I did contact Shazam on this. Response below...
Hi there
While I can say our development team are continually working on bringing the service to as many platforms and regions as possible, I’m not entirely sure when a version for n900/Maemo handsets will be available.
Full details of any new release would be made available on our website prior to launch date.
