It's a tool and not a fragile kid. If it breaks, I know a place where they have so many N900, they sell them.
I drop mine constantly, but I am careful not to have other stuff in the pocket, since that screen does get scratches. Other than that, it seems really sturdy. I had a N900 shaped bruise on my leg after a recent Machine Head concert. The phone was fine though.

Ah yes. I find comfort that these are tested thoroughly for people like who do drop and throw them in the air randomly. I have never had a nokia that has malfunctioned through a physical injury. Usually the buttons would wear out or the battery would end it's life. My N70 still works good as new.

As for scratches on the screen - horrendous to look at. If it happens il step on the whole thing to end its misery (..and claim my insurance )

Gosh you guys have some wussy n900s! Mine is a workhorse. I never leave home without it. It lives in a little pouch round my neck most of the time, but goes to work, play, walk the dog... get's yanked out for taking photos in muddy lanes and while climbing hedges, takes diary enties when I'm with clients and sms mesages while walking. I expect it to do at least as full a day's work as I do.

Never leaves home! Harrumph! Agrophobic phones.. whateffer next!

(Mind, the consolation is my n900 sleeps on my pillow...)

True Kathy, mine is with me 90% of the time, except the aforementioned 'night out' and unfortunately at work, where it would be impossible to take it ;-)

My Mo has to stay in the office in the hospital, and isn't allowed on the ward. But beyond that, he's with me everywhere. Right now, on the table beside me. If he were the nervous sort, he might worry about the proximity of my cup of Earl Grey... fortunately, I'm the neurotic one in this household.

Why buy a £500 device and leave it at home?

Same here wherever I am so is my N900, I'm so attached that I wake up in the middle of the night just to make sure its still there .

Maybe im a wuss lol, my N900 stays at home most the time, i have other devices to take to work to get scratched, id hate a big scratch in the screen, it would ruin it lol, it still looks brand new.
Its never been droped or knocked in any way, it sleeps on a small N-series cloth on my bedside table.

i woudn't want to wear a pouch round my neck

also, given the poor build quality of the device (mine is already falling apart after 2 months, other users report serious issues, too), i'd rather not touch it at all.
