Just had some service settings sent to my phone by O2.

It seems they've just added support for the N900 so we might see them on contract soon then I would assume!

O2's sending-service-settings-to-phone-when-you-turn-it-on-first-time system supports practically every phone ever made, it's not a sign that they'll be offering the phone themselves (easy to get an O2 contract upgrade via CPW to get the phone though).

Not sure - according to this post Vodafone had a 6 month exclusive deal, so that would be until May/June.

It's just that N900 can handle the settings sent by O2, as can all other Nokia phones.

O2 do this when you put your simcard into another phone.

The reason I mentioned it is because I've had this device since before new that because I have spoken to customer services and they said they didn't support it or even have a clue what it was. And you're right, they do send when you pop the sim, but not with the N900 until this afternoon. The settings files are OS unique, so a symbian operator setting file would not work with the N900 etc.

As regards contracts, I said might so I dunno.

This isn't true, i've had my N900 a number of weeks and O2's service settings were correctly delivered to my phone within 30 seconds of me first turning it on. I also know several other people with N900's on O2 who all received their service settings immediately, going back as far as December.

My N900 is on o2 and service settings were received immediately.

Having said that, it transpires I need a new sim as mine is an old pre-3g one...

Through carphone warehouse, BTW.

could these settings be coming from nokia direct or do you actually get a settings-file-text from o2?

Also the first time I used my N900 on 3 I got settings through in an instant - and of course they don't support the N900 either.

I have a feeling the configuration stuff may use information from a 3rd party?
