I bought the N900 to try for 7 days with the intention of sending it back, so I can do the same for the HTC Desire when it comes out as well.

Been trying to cram in a lot of what I've read for the past few months, and I have to say I'm very impressed and don't really want to send it back!

I used to use Linux, and don't mind using the terminal if need be, and used to like "hacking" my previous N82, though quite limited, so the prospect of editing and customizing the N900 is appealing.

What is Android like for hacking, and all the Linux geek stuff? Just as I don't want to send the N900 back, to try the HTC Desire, to find I prefer the N900! I know Android is based on Linux, but I've read its nothing like the N900 in terms of Linux power.

Also, on the screen, the right hand side there is grey areas, as though it's a shadow from the lights inside. I don't know if this is normal or whether its my screen? It's noticeable on a white background.

Android contains only the kernel of Linux, the rest is google stuff, Maemo is a 100 Linux OS. Maemo grants easy, and with easy i mean official with manufactur warranty, root access...Androids needs hacks like IPhone...

And the apps on android are running in a modified Java Environment of google...anything (in my opinion) with Android and free is only it's just marketing...yes you can have android for free, not he drivers...not the google apps like maps, phone etc...

ya dude dont rock with android any more. google should be punished for falsly stateing that its linux on android. i started with a N810 and after that. i tried ti use android but its just to limited. its locked down enough to make you feel upset, i did. i couldnt buy any thing that was not maemo. why and how could i use android when its just a phone. N900 is a computer and i love it. plus the n900 is the best phone for 3D gaming. and now that you have had a taste of fm transmitter, carl zeiss lens and class leading multi tasking how could you willimgfully digress from that??????

Well, apparently because i've used the phone, i dont get the 7 day return. It could be a blessing in disguise!

Just gotta hope T-Mobile are better than Orange. So far, using 3G/2G connection, I am refused access to social networking sites, and anything not good enough for under 18 year olds! It gives me a number to gain access mind.

Keeping with the N900 lets me get to play with XTerminal abit more too, I want to tweet from the XTerminal! Plus i love the conversations intergration.

I see so many people wanting to send their N900 back because Meego may not come to the N900, insanity, M5 is incredible as it is!

What else can I do with SSH? I use a Mac so the terminal will be similar I would think.
