With the phone in 3g mode it will lose signal if the network only is in 2g at that time and I need to switch to 2g manually, through the aplett

All othere phones I have owned have automatically switched down from 3g to 2g when 3g is not available

Is this normal or am I missing something?

when you switch to dual mode it will switch automatically.... but if you have dual enabled and there is no 3g network avaliable then the battery gets faster empty....

i prefer switching between dual and 2g....

It might prefer 2G since you have better coverage with it, just a stab in the dark though.

Disconnect from internet (cell phone internet).
Go to Settings, then to "phone".
In "Network" section, field "Network Mode" select "dual".
Then "save" and close settings app.
