Sure, but that is the most competitive market. NOKIA does outsell worldwide but what do they outsell with? Cheap pennies for the underdeveloped world......that will not make them money or improve their high end market..........US is the place for the hign end smartphone market.

You're talking about many different things there, Goober.
The most competitive market, the most profitable market and the biggest (high end) smartphone market.

I'm pretty sure that US holds just one of the 3 titles mentioned above.

I might be abit out of date, but I think the European market is where the competitiveness is on the SmartPhone market, and I think it is largely to do with the mobile networks not all operating on the same standards (been a while since i looked at the US market), and is coverage still an issue due to the physical size of the continent.

Within Europe, and the majority of the rest of the world (I think Japan is different), the same network technologies are used (all based around the old GSM technology....I know 3G isn't GSM)

The only reason why Apple have done so well is down to their Marketing Strategy, all they have done is taken functionality that is was already available on Symbian, and marketed it as if they were the first to ofer the solution......it also helped that they tied it in with iPods and iTunes

What do you base that on? Id put my money on Europe being the place for the hign end smartphone market with asia a close second.

I might need some stats to backup my claims.

Pretty certain you are right, Europe has been the place where mobile technology took off, you just need to look at where all the major global players originated from
Vodafone: UK
T-Mobile: Germany (I believe)
Nokia: Finland
Ericsson: Sweden (I think, providing lots of infrastructure under just the Ericsson brand)

The list would go on if I really put my mind to it

I don't think stats are necessary. Look at any US cell companies "high end" phones. They are often 2 years old, still being sold for top dollar due to the lack of off contract options here.

Just look at the profits that Apple made, they beat the WHOLE NOKIA with one product! Unbelievable. And yes they do have good marketing but they also have focused on one product and made it extremely user friendly and it payed off
