Well after all the talk about Erminig and syncing your calendar and contacts I found the easiest piece of work yet

Getting your contacts into GPE Contacts....

Haven't tried google contacts but export from outlook works very easily..

export your contacts as comma seperated values, .csv files...

GPE Contacts will import these with no problems...

Sorry for the double posting but I have just noticed that you started a new thread for this app. This is much more appropriate than having it mixed in with the GPE Calendar discussion.

My version of GPE Contacts permits import of VCard only. Is there a version available somewhere with a full import option?

There seems to be several repos around for this app. They are all slightly different and I find it confusing as to which is the best one.

I have a N800 and that might explain the difference. I first read about GPE Contacts for the N800 here
http://fl0rian.wordpress.com/2007/04...-for-gpe-bits/

and the repository is here
http://linuxtogo.org/~florian/maemo/index.html

Bora is for N800, right?

yep... bora is for 2007 edition.... so n800...

are you on linx or windows?

using windows and outlook exporting gave me a number of options...

.csv for windows worked

Getting my address book into .csv is ok, my problem is importing the .csv into GPE Contacts.
From the menu 'Contacts - Main, i get 'Tools/ImportVcard'. That is all, no import from file, no export to file, etc. So the only opiton available to me seems to be to put each individual contact into a separate vcard and import them one by one. Not a realistic proposition for a few hundred names and addresses.

So when you said GPE Contacts will import .csv files no problems, I have to assume that it is no problems on the N770 version. From what I can see so far it is a problem on the N800. It is possible that I am missing something somewhere of course.

When I saw Tahitibob's work on GPE Calendar my hopes were raised but he says he has no interest in GPE Contacts so I guess I am stuck for a while.

Ah well, it got my hopes up there for a while.

The problem I have with the standard Contacts is the paucity of fields, no address, post code, phone number, etc. Hence my reason for looking to use GPE Contacts.

Reviving this thread

Have you found something new?
I'm having the same prob with GPE-Contact right now.
hundreds to import and can't import them in one big file. Contact : "import failed"

There must be a way around this, it's impossible that they didn't think of multiple contact import, no?

thanks

I got mine imported, but I can't remember exactly what I did. There are threads on this subject, and a search should turn it up. This isn't a new subject by any means, and between the forum search and wiki you should be able to find the solution.
