I don't think it's a matter of time, that update was released many days ago all over the world.

Have a look here for more info.

There's just another way for manually updating your N900, and that is reflashing but it's sooo drastic!

Ok now I am getting scared. I wonder what to do about that.

Guys, altho this little conversation between me and torpedo is useful it is off-topic of course.

The battery issues is likely to be down to a number of things. This topic is meant as a test for only the 3G problems so please continue to vote and discuss it here. Anyone who has not updated to Maemo 5 version 1.1.1 should do so ASAP too ^^

Thanks again torpedo

not sure if you missed it, and if so how could you. but pr 1.1.1 solved a battery bug https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6615

UK users didn't get that update yet: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...e+update+1.1.1

i suggest you'll flush manually as many uk users already did (restore works like magic).

also, add to your instructions at the top that people with the old firmware shouldn't vote.

as for myself, the update didn't seem to improve my situation, with 3.5G and several IM clients constantly connected (and moderate usage of youtube and wikipedia: 2 movies, and some 20 html pages), i get about 6 hours. with WiFi i get about 18.

hold uppppp im confused.

So, UK users didnt get the update yet? Then how is a flush going to help (I am in the UK)? Secondly, what IS a flush haha. Sorry I am a real noob.

Thirdly, if it solved the bug, then why do you still have the issues?

So confused...

when you flash (http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware) you can choose what variant of the firmware to install, and from what i read in the thread (link in my previous post) nokia have delayed firmware updates for uk phones a lot in the past (n95 and other). so switching to the global firmware will mean that next time you'll get the update (over the air) when it is released (rather than waiting for the UK variant for weeks or even forever).

you can run through that thread for more details on what nokia has done in the past with updates. as far as i could tell there is on real difference between the firmwares (that's also what is said by others). flashing is real easy (read the instructions carefully), and the backup/restore works like a charm.

regarding the battery issues:
read this: http://wiki.maemo.org/Make_your_battery_last_longer
the battery bug solved in pr1.1.1 (link in my previous post) solved some issue related to WiFi.
there are other battery bugs open which weren't fixed yet. and it might be that 3G / HSPG just consumes all that power and there is nothing to do about it (though your poll suggests otherwise).

u are the best mate, thank you so much!

I was contacted by a power user who is developing a program to solve the issue that I am mentioning here. The poll is at least hinting that this may be a problem. I will make a post about my results as soon as I have some.

If I can get a days worth of juice out of this baby I will be so happy, and of course, explain exactly what I did to everyone, after I've tested each and every part. I hope people keep voting so we can get a more accurate picture on this particular aspect.

Thanks again, to you and everyone helping with this!

On further note, I will wait for it to hit the UK. It has to eventually.

You say that the back up works like a charm, but yeah...my phone is completely and utterly customised now, after hours and hours and days and days of work xD

I can be patient. I will use this time to wait and see if the other problems help.

GUYS PLEASE VOOOOOOOTE!

from what i've read there where some nokia devices that have had firmware updates, but the uk for there updates wasn't released (even two years later). while i don't believe this will be the case here, the 3 variants were released together, and since then over a week have passed.
also keep in mind that at the end of the month the big pr 1.2 is suppose to be released (with major updates like Qt 4.6) and possibly many other fixes and improvements.

anyway, just to let you know, apart from the custom boot video i didn't seem to loose anything. my calendar and all conversation history was kept, all device settings, and even a lot 3rd party application settings.
it didn't erase the emmc content (docs, files, and even applications installed there), only replaced the 256mb rootfs. after restore it offered to re-install all the applications i had, and it did just that..
