Glad your g/f was impressed. I'm an old romantic at heart, even if I am personally immune.
bridgwater and well, anywhere within 30 or so of there is fine - think poole may be a stretch for me that week - but don't mind going an hour or so away from minehead (I know that road from bridgewater is looooong n windy! - quite enjoy the drive tho!)

Yeah, long and windy it most definitely is. Hence people coming from the East might prefer somewhere on the M5. Unless you fancy Glaston?

I could arrange a venue with wifi and AV in London at Birkbeck, University of London.

It's Euston/Russell Square area.

It has a cheap bar also.

I am tempted to arrange something for Plone along the same lines also.

Euston/Russell Sq would be fine - anywhere around London I'd come to one.

Who would you target it at - just any keen N900 owners wanting to get more from it/geek chat about it, or more towards developers and real techies (I'd be in that category)? We could invite some app dev's to show off new and latest apps or to do tutorials on how to use a particular dev environment? Maybe even if the group is more established try and get someone more official or to hear more about Meego as that progresses.

I used to be a member of a "mobile developers" group on meetup.com but it didn't last. I could (and have considered to) create a group on there at no extra cost - I already have a group for an entirely different topic, and you can have up to 3 groups for the same price. That would be another way to attract people to a meet.

(I put myself on the pin map already, am in SW London)

I'm guessing we've all just been chatting about it and noone's met yet (apart from the 'Push N900' thing). So let me try to consolidate the ideas so far. Focussing on London as lots said that would be ok, and its where I live - doesn't preclude anyone suggesting here/starting a thread for one more South-West of the country.

* London - Euston/Russel Sq area (Birkbeck college, Uni of London)
(volunteered space by tonypercy, wifi and AV facilities)

* Poole/Bristol - nothing specific suggested yet.

* London - Paddington
(pub private room upstairs for free, no disabled access; pub details link suggested by pjdowner

noobmonkey also talked about something end of March, but I haven't seen anything. Q: did you organise anything/put a poll up?

Any other location suggestions? Preferably ones we don't have to charge for or guarantee minimum turnout and bar expenditure, especially for a first meet (god knows how many would actually turn up). I'm wondering the pub we used for the mobile devs group might be suitable, which was near the Strand I think. Had an upstairs room usually empty enough and maybe even a big display (I forget..). Would be cool to plug an N900 into a projector for showing off stuff

I'm thinking a) it should be a weekend or maybe a Friday evening, b) before Easter might be too little time to organise and allow enough folk to see it and allow strong chance they're not already busy, and therefore that c) the weekend after Easter is my considered best thought. Leaving it too long means people can also forget about it/lose interest.

We should cross-post to forum nokia when we have something. Which I haven't looked at all recently (in case they already have something on the go?)

PS Tried using the 'LIST' bb tag but preview failed miserably..1

May I suggest the format of

$venue
$number of would be attendees

so if I wanted to indicate I would prefer the Birbeck college venue it would look like

* London - Euston/Russel Sq area (Birkbeck college, Uni of London)
(volunteered space by tonypercy, wifi and AV facilities)

1

And each person who would like to attend that venue would increment the number

######COPY AND PASTE BETWEEN HASHMARKS, DO NOT QUOTE########################

* London - Euston/Russel Sq area (Birkbeck college, Uni of London)
(volunteered space by tonypercy, wifi and AV facilities)

* Poole/Bristol - nothing specific suggested yet.

* London - Paddington
(pub private room upstairs for free, no disabled access; pub details link suggested by pjdowner
