Hello,

I recently got my N800 and downloaded a couple of themes in the hopes of finding something with higher contrast. I have an eye problem and generally do better with white text on black backgrounds... I observed on maemo.org a couple of themes that had exactly that... namely the LCARS and Matrix themes. I installed them and they appear to work fine, however if I try to change back to one of the themes that came with the device I notice that the downloaded themes don't clean up very well after themselves, ie the sound effects for program launch etc. are still the annoying LCARS sounds, and some of the icons are still from the Matrix theme... is there any way to fully revert back to the default themes?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with the LCARS theme. I found that restarting several times seemed to fix the issue. I think that the image cache for the themes never gets cleared. Hope this helps.

If you want to clear the icons, you need to uninstall the theme.

Icons are not part of nokia theming engine and themes usually replace nokia stock icons with their own icons. This leads to all themes using the same icon set until a new theme is installed or a previous one is uninstalled.

I'm sure you've probably figured it out by now, but the same goes for the sounds; to get your old sounds back, simply uninstall the "lcars-sounds" package in the Application manager.

I have been tryng out the various themes, namely Nuvo Theme/Pearl/Black and Brushed. Basically they have caused the battery charging circuit to malfunction. At first I thought it was only the battery meter that was affected but, now that the battery is flat, it won't charge.

Neither will it start while on the power cord. The big NOKIA logo comes up for a second and then the screen goes dead.

Reflashing the device may fix it but without being able to start it up I can't even try that.

I have removed the battery several times including letting it stand over night in the hope that fully discharging the device would help

I wonder if anyone, esp the themes designers, has any ideas?

Sounds like your system is too full. Themes take quite a lot of space and it just might be that one of them has filled your system. In that case, the only possibility is to reflash the system.

I had fully charged the battery, installed the themes, played around, uninstalled them and then found that the battery wouldn't charge. So I drew the obvious (to me) conclusion.

It seems that during this short time the power charger had failed. This was quite unprovoked, no kinking or twisted wires, no tension at the terminals, etc. So much for 'genuine Nokia quality'. The replacement charger is a generic £5 eBay type which can't possibly be any worse than the £25 Nokia part.

Thank you for taking the time to suggest a remedy, the information is useful to know and once I decide on a preferred theme I shall uninstall the rest so as to free up space.

I had just solved the charging problem and was on the point of posting the result so as to save troubling people for a response so I am sorry for the inconvenience.
