Sure, there are a few things that can be manually optified, but if you aren't having problems it's not worth the trouble.

I'm sitting at 60MB free on my rootfs right now, and I'm comfortable with that. You should be ok.

It would be helpful to know how much root space each app takes up. Is it literally just the size of the app?? Only got 25% free so might start uninstalling...

No app should take more than 500kb in rootfs. That's the guidline anyway. 25% is plenty.

You're looking at the total size there, not the rootfs size, so you won't get much out of removing a lot of those. Have a look at http://www.robinhill.me.uk/maemo/package_sizes.html instead. And 49M is not an issue (especially if you have -devel or -testing repositories enabled, as disabling them will free up another chunk of space).

I am running out of rootfs. HealthCheck says I have 12.9 megs of free space left. I have carefully gone thru the Wiki and read the doc on freeing up rootfs and followed every single suggestion to the extent consistent with the way I want to use my N900.

I did this as an experiment. I just want to make a statement.

The rootfs problem was a big Nokia blunder. It means that, unlike with my N810 and N800, I can't install and run the programs that are available that I want to run. Furthermore, I constantly have to watch how much rootfs I have left in a way that I haven't experienced since the DOS days when I was running out of disk space on my 10 meg hard drive.

I have not installed one single game. I think the last program I installed was VIM, because I like it and because I want to play around with a version better than the one that comes with the system by default.

My N900 is running great. I haven't installed all the programs I want to install. The rootfs problem won't let me. I resent it. Probably I will uninstall VIM in about five minutes, against my will. That is something I never had to do on my N800 or N810.

I know you don't like complaints. This is a complaint. I'm not asking for help. I just don't like this aspect of the N900.
