Hi. I would like to wirelessly connect my new Nokia 770 to my PC so that I may be able to tranfer files wirelessly such as PDF documents and mp3 files.
I was trying to install Samba browser (smbbrowser), but it says that I still need to find Smbfs and install that as well. Where can I find this Smbfs file and how do I add it ??

Is there a tutorial specifically for installing Samba on the nokia 770???

The easiest way is to go to maemo.org, then the wiki, then Howto, then the Networking section. There is an article on accesing Windows shares using CIFS.

I tried this on my N800 and it works great. There are different modules for the N770 and the N800, just get the right one.

I saved it on my memory card on my 770. But this file can't be executed, it still needs to be extracted. How can I extract it on my 770 ??

You need to get some infrastructure set up first. This sort of thing has to be done as root using the command line commands. The easiest way to do this is to follow the instructions in the the same howto section of the wiki in the developers sections, its something like the easy way to become root, something like that. You will use the application manager to add some repositorys to the application manager (exactly what to type is includded in the article), then use the application manager to install the two applications, one is a script for logging in as root, the other is osso-xterm which is the command line window where you type commands.

Once you have all that done, go to your normal application launcher. go to extras and start xterm. In xterm type in the command to become root (its in the article above), THEN you can type in the commands in the first article! These include making a directory where linux will mount the windows share, untaring the tar file, loading the module and mounting the file system.

The second two steps have to be done each time you reboot the machine. You can either put them in a script you run after each boot (you still have to start xterm, become root, then run the script), or you can have the computer start them at boot time. This means modifying the boot files, which certainly can be done, but is a little risky, if its done wrong the machine may not boot. So its probably a good idea to be confident about making system modifications before trying that.

Going through all that is does seem a bit complicated doesn't it. Its really not all that bad.
