i have a long palm history in my pocket so im used to big devices.

but in comparison to a "common" cheap and solid mobile phone, is huge and heavy as a brick

I too was a little sad to see the size, personally I would have been fine with an N810 sized device. If Nokia were serious about step 4 of 5 etc they should have let us geeks, early adopters and beta testers have one last nice big 'Internet Tablet' instead of a smartphone sized device.

I actually expected it to be bigger.....but I just put it in my handbag phone pocket or my coat pocket. However, in summer i dont think I could walk around with it in my jeans pocket, unless i wear boyfriend jeans every day!!Apart from feelng uncomfortable it would also be pretty obvious prey for all those pickpockets around in Florence....I mean sort of 'Hey! she's got a N900 in her back pocket, let's move!'.After reading this thread i got my boyfriend to check out if he could put the n900 in his pocket, he found it no problem, even in his inner jacket pocket......he also suggested a small messenger bag which all men/young boys seem to carry with them in Italy. Evidently all this hardware is getting pretty heavy so all these males turn to designer bags!! :-) especially when it gets to 40° in the summer months and you're obviously short of clothes never mind pockets to stick a phone in.
So in conclusion it's largish, solid, can double as a netbook, fits in your pocket....and is perrrrfect!

It fits my front trouser pocket (but be sure to get screen protection - coins and sand may damage it otherwise). I'll simply pocket the device if I step away from my desk for a few moments, but if I'm traveling then I carry it in a soft case that attaches to my belt.

I do find it marginally uncomfortable to use as a phone - I'm accustomed to a candy bar style phone which fits my small hands better. But for all other purposes its size suits me just fine.

When I first unpacked my n900 I literally said "damn its so small".
After all the reviews I read i was really expecting something significantly chunkier. In comparison to my 6110 Navigator it's about a half centimeter longer and wider and actually slightly less thick.
I carry it in a clip on leather case, but before that I had it in my front trouser pocket. No problems.

You should get one of these so you can move it yourself:

Kind of expensive though.

It fits any pocket but front shirt pocket is better to avoid (weight!).

My last phone was a n95 8G. When I ordered my N900 I thought I would have to buy a new pouch for it. But low and behold it even fits in the belt pouch of my n95. It is exactly as thick as the n95, just a bit longer. I have no problem with the weight or the size. I have a friend who has the HTC HD2, now that is a BIG phone.
