For some reason unknown to me and beyond my control our office policy has user name as First Letter of first name, space and surname.

On my N95 I could connect via pop, imap and MfE fine.
On the 900 I am told outright that space is an invalid character for pop and imap. With MfE it seems to allow it but refuses to connect stating invalid credentials and then blanks the username

Why this sudden restriction?

There is a post on the Nokia support forum (http://discussions.nokia.com.au/t5/M...ht/false#M6110) but I have given up all hope of getting any kind of support from Nokia directly and others may feel the same so not pay as much attention there so wanted to up my chances by posting here.

EDIT: oh sorry... didn't get the point... ^^

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_address

space in email addresses are not allowed by specification.

so i would think your mailservers aren't correctly configured.

and nokia is just following the specification. (:

The OP didn't say email address, he said username. Although unusual, I think spaces in usernames should be allowed.

At what stage exactly? I can create a new IMAP or POP account with a username containing spaces here, but as I don't have such an account I can't test whether it works after that.

Feel free to reopen bug 2745 adding a comment explaining where it's broken.

Thanks for the link to the bug. From that I can see that the issue has been raised and it is slated for a later update.
