Nokia's U.S. web site is not displaying the latest firmware update.
Will owners of n800 devices purchased in the U.S. encounter compatibility issues if they install the firmware that's posted on the European site?

I dare to say no problem.

I bought my N800 in the U.S. and have always downloaded firmware updates from the European site(s), including the latest.

It has always worked fine (the upgrade that is... and not counting any "issues" introduced by the new firmware as it is being told now.)

Greetings:

It seems that I may have downloaded the firmware from the European website.

Looks like everyone is having issues.

I hope Nokia corrects these problems.

In a conversation that I just had with a Nokia support guy, he told me that installing the European version of the n800 update will do serious harm to devices purchased in the U.S. He also said that a U.S. version of this update should be available in the next 2 - 3 weeks.

!

That sounds very odd. I have my doubts about the accuracy of both comments.

I think that guy was messing with you or somthing because I downloaded mine from nokiaeurope and havent had 1 problem. Anyway what differences could the euro version and u.s. version have, Im thinking none. I would say install the update like i did and at tthe beggining choose English(Usa) and youll be fine.

err I have a US n800 and I live in the US and I installed the update via the Windows updater dohicky and the latest update just came over. I found the Windows updater dohicky on the US Nokia site.

It works fine, there are some issues people are having but it seems to be mostly related to backups. The new version of the OS works fine, flash 9 works pretty well, skype works fine, I havn't tested any of the new bigger memory cards yet.

I'd say your just flat out wrong, and whomever you talked to at Nokia doesn't even know what an N800 is.

But thats just my opinion.

I downloaded mine from http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N800.php pointed the flasher to it and i have no issues and i have a US version n800.

I do have to say that i updated twice the first time i did a restore from backup and saw weird things with the browser ie missing scroll bar on the right side but after reflashing and configuring everything manually no problems.

Greetings:

I don't believe the statement.
If N800's from USA couldn't install the new firmware from the European site, Nokia would have had a warning, there is no warning?
The new firmware should work on all N800.
Or does a company want to loose a big perecentage of its user market.

Because of the replies to my original post, I called U.S. Nokia support for a second time, and once again was given the same answer. Considering the dubious intelligence of Nokia's support personnel, I am inclined to give more credence to the denizens of this forum than to the two support "specialists" I've talked with today. However, the fact remains that the U.S. Nokia site still shows a different version number than the European site.
