I have been running my phone with this firmware from ages (based in UK, London). I don't know what is going on.

Thanks worked perfectly. X terminal is quite cool as well, as you can see it all being installed as it goes through it. Learning more about this device every day!

Yes, that's the global variant, and no, you shouldn't expect an update today - this update is only bringing the UK generic variant up to the same version as the rest of the world got several weeks ago.

So hopefully people are getting to grips with how to clear their root folders and launching this update. But does anyone have any insight into why it has appeared and what changes its made, if any?!

Would appreciate if someone can reply this:

- What is the difference between Global and UK firmware versions?
- Does it mean updating (Flashing) phone to latest GLOBAL version 3.2010.02-8 will allow me to use any sim card outside UK?

Sorry if anyone has already replied to these questions.

Nobody knows what the difference is (or nobody who knows is saying). And I don't see why flashing to the global firmware would make any difference to using SIM cards outside the UK - you should be able to do so with or without reflashing.

hi
while updating my 203 uk generic n900 OTA, I got an error "operation failed" while the update was downloading to the device...it appeared for a while n then dissappeared. The download finished and then it started updating and the rest of the update process went smoothly. I had 60 mb free space on rootfs, I had disabled extra, extra devel and my maemo repo too jst incase. Now my qs is why did it give me tht error? and do i need to worry?
