Has anyone got details on how to take a high res GIF (in this case a marine chart) and chop it up into images that could be used by Maemo Mapper?

No but i would love to know how. I go hunting all the time and i would love to know how to do that with my game management maps.

You have to private-message the author, but I did and he sent me a copy and it works. It's not perfect, though.
