Find your position quickly and accurately with the built-in Assisted-GPS receiver. The Nokia N900 works seamlessly with Ovi Maps to give you the quickest available route as you make your way from A to B.

Quoted from the official website. Please pay attention to the highlited part of the text.Sounds like navigation to me.
And it does that.. On the website it says NOTHING about Turn By Turn VOICE navigation.. But it surely does take you from point A to point B with no problems!

Guys the issue is not in the detail. It is clearly FALSE advertising and to settle this I will take legal advise before pursuing this matter with nokia!

quite simply they refered to an extant/existing product in the marketing of a new product that being OVI MAPS. We all took that to mean the . . . the ovi maps we have come to love, they should correctly alluded to a new prodct such as ovi maps light edition or something like that.

In truth, for those in the know the term ovi maps actually describes a product that has gone through a number of enhancements and represents a specific version of that product with certain features.

I have tracked that product since my N80 when nokia bought a company that had a mapping product and made it available. smart2go. anybody remember that. lets call that version 1. this product evolved into nokia maps. lets call that version 2. nokia maps becase ovi maps with internet syncing to match wayfinder and a whole load of other features.

to then bring out a flagship product and advertise it as containing ovi maps when in truth it contains a cut down version is i believe in legal terms 'passing off' or false advertising.

lets learn from a certain japanese car manufaturers failings in US. i say pertition noooo. law suit hell yes . . . .

Its surely pretty obvious that once QT4.6 is pushed to n900, and ovi maps is ported to QT then it'll come to the n900 and the current maemo version will be scrapped?

I agree wholeheartedly. One of the reasons I bought this thing is because I understood there was a promise to bundle usable GPS software, so that I don't have to use yet another GPS device in my car. You don't buy a $500 worth device just to find some piece of $hit on it that says "ovi maps", but has nothing to do with what was advertised. In "ovi maps" video clips there is a guy sticking device to the windshield, using voice commands, offline maps. Guy goes to f##ing Prague and gets around both on car and on foot, can access all the maps and even see historical markings. "Navigation on your Nokia. For free. Forever. Plus free maps for more than 180 countries". That is what "ovi maps" mean to me. This is what I paid the $500 for. The crap they bundle does not even know map of Rocky Point in Mexico.

Anyway, in a meantime, my old GPS is still in my car, and I feel I have been cheated.

I thought with all the bloggers connected here, we could do something to make sure Nokia listens to its customers.

Unfortunately I was wrong. Nokia succeeded in duping us.

Joshua (fitting name) as I do not believe the fight is over!

Having taken some advice this morning i strongly believe NOKIA is at fault.

My advisors have told me to focus on the term. . .

Ovi Maps pre-installed

This is where they believe NOKIA are at fault as this is could be considered as both misleading and deception!

the key question is what does this term mean to the average person!

a. a pre-existing product that nokia has put time into advertising heavily will be offered/bundled with the N900 product free of charge

or

b. a new product/light version would be made available!

The initial advice is for each of us to take this up with our relevent trading standards body in our own jurisdiction.

I still believe we should be responsible consumers and give NOKIA a chance to respond to any claims made.
