I've written a script to tell you what repository an installed package is currently in. For install time you'd have to look at the timestamps on the relevant metadata files in /var/lib/dpkg/info.

can be from devel and testing too?!

Another way to learn about newly released app is through My-maemo.com. However, I am not sure if the info ever get updated after the release of an app.

No, all the apps there should be from the main maemo.org repository. If you've got -devel or -testing enabled then you may have updated to a version from there though.

Ok cool, just making sure. I dont have -devel or -testing enabled. I just set up an rss feed for that link I posted... so I can see when new apps go in there...

ok, what the heck...

http://maemo.org/downloads/Maemo5/

the top 'fresh' app... i wanna download it... so i go to application manager and search 'batt' and the only one that comes up is battery-eye... i thought we just established that there aren't any devel and testing apps in that link... argh

According to http://maemo.org/packages/view/batterygraph/ version 0.3.0 reached stable yesterday, and 0.2.2 was in there from early March. I've no idea why you're failing to find it in App Manager.

Front page of the App. Manager there should be a big "Update" button. This refreshes the Application database on your device (which is needed if you want to install a brand new app).
