Dear god, did you get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning or what?!
The store's not fully working because Nokia are in the process of improving it, so that when it does start working again, there'll actually be the possibility of having more than like 3 applications on your phone.
Give it a break, and wait for them to finish sorting it out, jesus.

The Ovi store tells me to update my N900?
Is that what it tells you? Or are my config files messed up and it still thinking I'm on the OLD f/w?

Because leaving things alone would = a crap ovi store that "works" but has nothing remotely useful or interesting or fun in it, and cant be published-to outside of a small group of "select" developers.
Why would you possibly want nokia to leave ovi alone like that, instead of fixing it to work properly with maemo to allow all developers to publish content do it, as theyre currently doing?

That suggest Nokia do useful things with the ovi store, they meddle and it is still crap. Surely you are not suggesting Nokia actually put up the housewives video's and expect them to be a selling point. And the same programs are always in the reccommended, the same two dozen programs are in the lists and very little has ever actually been added by Nokia.
My own personal favourite game at the moment, is to go on a PC, visit the ovi store, don't choose your phone and look at all the HUGE array of games and software, then staying in a category like games, and choose your phone. then watch the massive filtering process that cuts it down to what you can actually get.
