If this is for real I'm pretty pised off! I have purchased both the 770 and n800 and neither device has ever been satisfactorly fixed. They both have many horrible bugs and the 770 has lost all Nokia's support, which I'm sure the n800 will also when this new device comes out.

Three remarks:
1. The position of the D-pad is not logical: it can only be accessed with the keyboard slid out.
2. Has this thing been in a car crash?
3. If this thing is real, I'll buy a Windows UMPC! I will, you know!

Looks OK but I hope it's only an early prototype - the D-Pad position and Menu buttons definately need to be on the front, and it's also lost the Back and Home buttons. I like the possibility of a keyboard although I know it's not going to suite everyone. And a hard cover would be great, but it looks like Nokia have no intention of revisting that design classic.

I agree to an extent with some of the above comments... lets get the software in better shape before launching yet another device and resetting the clock. Also, I hope this isn't released for at least another 9 months - give the N800 a reasonable lifespan but this all feels eerily reminiscent of the N800 rumours, so a new device for CES 2008 then?

I would have taken an internal GPS and an actual phone over a retractable keyboard. In fact I really don't have a problem with the onscreen keyboard. And seconding the problem with the proposed position of the D pad.

$50 says it's a business phone.

- No speakers
- No zoom/maximize keys
- No dedicated internet keys
- Where are the card slots in such a slim slider?

I know this will come as a shock, but someday the N800 will have a successor. We don't know when this thing will be released, if ever. Maybe you should have deferred your purchase till 2010.

Maybe they're on top - the pictures don't cover that area. But the d-pad/Menu button location and loss of Home/Back buttons is all wrong, very wrong (are you listening Nokia?)

Anyone hazard a guess what the transparent vertical plastic strip on the left hand side is (my guess: a touch sensitive slide control) Or it s a slot for something? The pictures aren't clear enough.

My only thought is that the transparent plastic (if that's what it is) could be a substitute for the d-pad up/down functionality (which is what I use most when scrolling in the web browser), and maybe the Home/Back buttons are located on top? If so, maybe I could live with the d-pad being positioned on the keyboard, which I would use only occasionally.

personal thoughts:

*in the first pic the indented area on the left is an SD card slot - i doubt it'd be a n800 sucessor, but rather a smartphone (with that size SD card slot, that'd mean that this device has a smaller screen than the current n800)
*seems to me that the screen isn't wide screen - looks more like 4:3 ratio screen - this would be a complete change on the current OS and this is to me is the single most important piece of contrary evidence
*i doubt they would drop the home key, maybe they'd drop the previous history key, but i doubt they'd drop the home key, and the key under the d-pad doesn't look like the current menu key (and notice how nokia tends to keep the same key etchings on the 770 and n800)
*after staring at the numbers in the upper left, i think that it either ends in 1 and is three digits (AKA N##1 - doesn't make sense) or ends in a 0 and is two digits (AKA N#0 - which would be like their cell phone line)

*however, looking closely at the keypad, the numbers are arranged 1-9 and 0 from left to right, this doesn't make sense if it was a phone, given the usual phone keypad arrangement, but then again, the keypad doesn't seem to have easy access to a "/" key which means typing urls would be annoying

*it has a euro key - this is a european model (go figure, nokia's based in europe)

*in the back shot, does it appear to have a stand? any ideas?

*after laying my n800 on the table and looking at it from various angles, i suppose it's possible the screen could be a similar size, but it just doesn't seem right somehow....
*the back looks a lot like the n800 and really unlike the other n-series phones
