I tried to email vodafone straight to find out if asda sims work, but their site is playing up for some reason.. aargh.. I will try emailing asda, and if I get a reply I will post it on here if its of any use. I also forgot about another question - how easy it is to top up an asda simmed mobile? there isnt a store near here, so I did wonder since its a vodafone network if I could just top up at any voda store..

1. I don't think the Voda N900s are locked to Voda
2. If they are just flash with the global firmware to unlock.

That "sim" is not meant for the N900 and is probably incorrectly listed. I would not be putting that in my phone for sure.

1 - Look at the N900. Is it an N900? Congratulations - it's unlocked!

2 - Texts are always the same on all plans. Cross-network calls are generally more expensive than same-network calls when you're on pay as you go. Unless you have a free calls allowance, of course. Check the terms.

3 - Ebaying pay-as-you-go SIM cards is expensive and dodgy. Get free ones direct from the network:
O2 http://freesim.o2.co.uk/
Vodafone https://www.v-store.co.uk/index.cfm?...ckout.freesims
3 http://www.three.co.uk/Pay_As_You_Go/SIM_Only
Orange http://freesim.orange.co.uk/
TMobile http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/free-...-go-sim-cards/

thanks-didnt see that, good to know i can top up at just about any standard top up logo approved location ie the good 'ol post office.. I think ill be going asda. I would never have chanced it with any ebay items, you just dont know how official/reliable they can be, and the one I saw wasnt listed/described well anyway and looked a bit home-made, even if it wasnt

we flashed global firmware on them from day one and all has been fine

I bought a brand new n900 on ebay last week. It was sold as Vodafone locked. Being a Linux hack I wanted a real OS underneath the hood and so I got rid of my crappy Vodafone Blackberry Storm.

But anyway, I have two sims. One is a Vodafone sim and another is a Virgin sim. Both work perfectly in the n900. There are no vodafone splash screens or special Vodafone Live apps/widgest like those found on the Blackberry. The only way you would no its anyway related to Vodafone in use is that it says Vodafone UK in the status bar. It said that even though my Virgin sim was connected to T Mobile.

But this n900 is fantastic. As an old timer Unix hack its hard to believe this little beauty's OS started out from a 6 foot PDP 11.

Very impressed.
