the E90 has a good keyboard, and a nice screen. No linux and no touchscreen, but should be a very good alternative for the N800 if you prefer a hardware keyboard.

Right. The nice thing about the tablets is that they dont have all those "nice to haves" built-in (keyboard, gps, gprs/hsdpa) but can simply connect to whatever you need. this reduces size and costs and makes it a very individual device for each of us. (if i wanted a hw keyboard, i would have bought one.)

From reading the reactions here, it seems that most of us wouldnt be pleased if these really were pictures of the N800-successor.

IMO it actually looks like one of those HTC or Mio phones. I can't recall seeing one sort of phone like that from Nokia before.

I doubt about the integrated keyboard. Me myself and I have a BT keyboard, which does the job for chatting for instance. But to be honest i dont use it, because most of the time when i'm out i dont have connection with a WiFi point, so it's like useless to take it with me. Although i have the Stowaway Ultra-slim version, it's a bit big when you are outside.
So for instance when you have connection with your mobile (which i finally succeeded to fix yesterday) and you are sitting in the train, a small integrated keyboard would be practical instead of the BT keyboard. On the other hand though, when you are in a cafe with a table f.i. a BT keyboard would be more practical.

I never had a phone or PDA with an integrated keyboard. So who out there has such a kind of phone/PDA and really uses that keyboard a lot?

BTW, if you look on the second picture... you can see in the upper-left corner a small digit with a letter. For what i can see is --> N x 9 , maybe N99 , or N09 (which seems bullox, but ok :P). And on the right you can see a 1. Of course this is a protoype. On the left side there's something "white" missing a frontplate or a Nokia logo or maybe there's the speaker when you're having a call?

What's wrong with the actual one? Yes, it has some intensive tasks sometimes that cause the table to be unresponsive for some seconds, but I believe it is much about the OS than the CPU...

I just plunked a few hundreds on a think outside, so i'd MUCH prefer they take away the keyboard!

On the "its ugly": yes, in a sense of course it is, as it is obviously a VERY early prototype

On the "its a phone": I would agree with Millhouse - where are all all the usual S60 keys and call/end buttons, unless Nokia went full on with a touchscreen solution on all of it, which I frankly doubt. But maybe they will.

On the "I don't want a real qwerty in my tablet": well, I sorta agree but then again many if not most of the reviewers in mainstream gadget sites have complained about the lack of it. Therefore, there may be good demand for it in the mass market.

Possible conclusions?

1) just a proto and will stay a proto; most likely scenario in my view
2) not a replacement for N800, but a product to be sold along it (like Texrat seemed to think too)
3) a phone; would have to be a major departure from current S60 philosophy of having to be able to use it single handed, but maybe they'll try that route; however, more likely this scenario would collapse back to number 1)

If it was a phone, I would find it strange though that the camera would be on the lower left corner when the phone would be held in the portrait position. Just does not seem feasible to me.

I want something I can take anywhere; a keyboard adds too much bulk. For seriious text entry, I hope speech becomes usable.

why in the world would they downgrade to the pull out keypad?

why would they make the screen smaller?
