In fact they're playing together really well..
except when u are driving with directions, the gps is quite talkative, and the music gets cut into a lot of poor pieces....
would be really better if the music volume just went down a bit so that the gps instructions is heared clearly...

the music will be paused and resumed..
but I will talk to them, asking for lower volume instead of pause.

Damn that's really annoying, I was wish the media player had the feature to remember how far through the track it was when last played.

Yes , it is paused and resumed, and you get the new track notification to appear each time (if you have enabled it).

It is not a big deal, tho, but if you sing along, its impossible to follow the music ! ^^

Thank you for trying to convince them

They're looking into lower the volume of the music from the media player and not pause it. But that isn't so easy.

I'm quoting:

Sygic is using pulseadio to playing sounds, and I think, there is possibility to play only one sound at time - you request permissions for playing (what means stop playing other sounds), then you play sound, then you release permissions (other sounds may play).
But as I said, sound playing will be redesign, someday...
What does that mean? Sygic is using pulseaudio to play the sounds, like the mediaplayer. With pulseaudio it isn't possible to play two sounds at one time. (If anyone have a idea, you're VERY welcome). You can test it by open lets say glTron and then open the mediaplayer. Sound from glTron will stop as soon as your music starts. After that test the same thing with glTron and SuperTux. There it is possible because they're using a different system, afaik.

Therefore Sygic want to redesign the whole sound-stack someday.

My Sygic works great after I made all the modifications as suggested by you and D-livil. Thanks again.

I have another request. My green arrow direction, especially the tip of the arrow, is somehow past where my car is actually located. For example, when I stop my car at the middle of an intersection, the middle of the arrow is at the intersection, but the tip of the arrow is already past the intersection. How would I change the settings in the "settings.ini" file's parameter to make the point of the arrow to be right at the intersection?
I would appreciate very much your help.

That's a pretty big pile of BS. (btw, this is the second time they've shown little to no knowledge of basic linux/maemo components... the first was the fact that they originally inteded to split the map packages into many small pieces so they fit into /opt, instead of using MyDocs for the map data...)

one of the main advantages of pulseaudio is the fact that it's a sound _server_, capable of receiving and mixing several audio sources.
you can even send the output of several pulseaudio servers to one single audio sink over a network...

click here for more info on the maemo specific implementation of pulseaudio.

sygic was probably talking about ALSA, one of the oldest sound architectures for linux. with alsa, it is indeed impossible to play two sources simultaneously. but then, that's why we have PA as the default audio arch on the N900...

Maybe they weren't even referring to sound servers at all. Check out the closed-source and undocumented (save for Doxygen comments in its headers) libplayback, and the closed-source policy plugins that go with it. They can limit what is played. (Think of some applications not outputting sound in Silent mode or not being allowed to press the play button on the media player whilst in a call.)
