when i created my account, i was under the impression it is for all of *.maemo.org.
turns out, it was just for talk.maemo.org, requiring me to get at least one additional account for the bugzilla (and not sure about Intro, Downloads, Community, Development, News).

this sometimes obcessive demand for creating an account for even the most mundane tasks has made me collect i rather big number of accounts already (an a lot of i forgot the credentials again, no idea what the admins of that sites gained by the dead accounts anyway).

what i am trying to say is, why isn't there a clear and userfriendly policy of a single sign-on for everything below maemo.org?
what's the point of having at least 3 different accounts for one single site?
from what i see, the used software supports with little if any effort anything like openid or stuff.

i wrote a mail to the site's admins asking, but never got answer, so i am asking publicly ...

You might want to do a site search first before starting a new thread or mailing site admins. A quick search of SSO Maemo.org yields such results:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ight=sso+maemo
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ight=sso+maemo

Due to the number of users, their skill, experience levels and longevity of the forum; there's a good chance that some of the obvious concerns have already been discussed in the past.

it may come as a shock to you -- but i did both before posting.
and if you really had read my post before jumping to conclusions, you would have at least partially known it.

I'm sorry, I don't see any explicit mention of you doing a search on this forum for explanation.

Anyhow, the two threads I've linked above talks about this issue in more detail. I believe there are more of it on the mailing list too.

any chance, you will read carefully?

and, btw, those threads are more than 6 months old, the porblem of at least missing clarity and inbformation to new users is acknowledged and yet -- nothing has been done about it.

at least i know now, it is not intended to be useful and the idea is to say "stay out of our playground! we were here first!"

There is absolutely no such intent, and I don't know why anyone would leap to such a bizarre, unsupported conclusion.

There have been some technical issues that got in the way of SSO, but at this point I am not sure what's holding it up. We are certainly due for an update...

Also, in defense of the reading skills of ysss: I read your post slowly, carefully, 3 times. I don't see any mention that you searched this forum for previous discussions on this subject.

A way to work around such is by developing a barrier. You can ask for the interested party to put some effort into their feedback. Therefore, you make sure only those who care to get through that process are going to reply. I like such barrier. I don't like it when someone puts a half effort in their feedback. In a way, the lack of SSO is such a barrier. Same for Brainstorm.
you most likely will dismiss it on formal grounds, but after two weeks excessively browsing this site it seem to me pretty well sum up the overall attitude.

i did never say that. maybe it helps to quote?

you would have at least partially known it.
but since this apparently leading nowhere but drowning a justified and in no way sufficently answered question (let alone solved -- posting surly comments and links to two threads, both very old and both w/o any solution, is neither an answer nor helpful), i am not going to prolong this thread any further.

Don't confuse one person's opinion with policy. And that does not at all "sum up the overall attitude". I want SSO solved, too, as does every regular member here I'd wager.

You are also grossly misunderstanding the point about searching the site. ysss suggested you search on subjects before creating new threads, to which you responded rudely and in a fashion unrelated to what he was saying. Searching is not the same as emailing an admin.

I get the feeling you just came in looking for a fight.

EDIT: sorry about last remark. There was no reason for me to be equally provocative.

@arne: well, my idea was to say "Hey we appreciate newcomers, but (especially) due to the recent surge of 'crazy threads' it'd be great if everyone can help out with forum organization and do a quick search before starting a new one". Even so, I gave a couple of pointers to threads about SSO and I hoped you could trace your way from them.

I also share the concern that a more unified experience from this site will be beneficial to all the members in general and in the long run to the community as a whole. Part of that is having SSO.

But maybe the point is kind of moot now, as things are being migrated to MeeGo.com.

Do remember that this is an open community and it's made up of a very diverse crowd. As far as I'm concerned, you're already part of the community once you've created an account here and partake a discussion in the forum. So... don't be a stranger!

@tex: thanks for the clarifications I just had to step away from the keyboard earlier today... Good Friday and all, y'know.
