I just bought the new n900 and have no idea how to install anything. I updated both OVI and pc suite. I know OVI doesn't support it yet, but I used pc suite to update my n900 software. However when I go to maemo.org to install apps, nothing installs. I have the installer app program open, but my downloaded file doesn't install. I tried installing some audio/video programs, but nothing seems to be recognized by the installer.exe program. What am I doing wrong. Like I said, I used the pcsuite update program to update the software on my N900. I had an n97,n96 and n95 and had no problems with any of them. Do I need to install something special on my phone to install apps? Any help from anyone would be truly appreciated.

Basically, go to Application Manager which can be found in Settings. Click download (obviously when you are online!) and you should get a list of available apps.

hi...im not an expert...but this is what had happened to me...i didnt face any probs...the first time i tried to install a s/w, i automatically got a prompt to upgrade the s/w version of the OS...when u go in application...go to Update..check if there is an update for the OS there...if its there..ur OS has NOT been updated...pls do the update directly on the phone..its easiest and convinient...if u do have an internet connection on the phone..also....i first updated it...when halfway through...i THOUGHT the process was complete..but it wasnt...info about the OS still showed the old s/w version in Settings...so you can check here too...just try it..and see what happens...good luck!!!

I tried what you guys said but got a message saying partially refreshed catalogs and failed catalogs (nokia applications, nokia system software updates,ovi, maemo.org) I have it hooked up to my computer directly and still nothing. I am totally stuck. I read all the stuff it says on the link posted by zail, by I can't even get it to update anything.

You have it attached to your computer? I would focus on being attached wirelessly; that's how most do it.

hi....can u tell me how exactly do u access internet on ur handset? do u have a data plan active on ur sim or are u using internet somehow from ur pc on ur handset? im not clear about the process ur using...but i advise u use internet directly on ur handset using a data plan active sim or wifi...might work...good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I went into my dlink and fooled with the settings and then connected the device and now its working fine. It turns out the router wasn't reading my device. Now everything is a-okay. I still don't like that Ovi doesn't work with this thing, but hopefully soon it will support it 100 percent.
