claws is actually in the extras-devel repo for the n900 --- unfortunately it doesn't seem very stable - I set it up for my work account, and it seemed ok initially, but after 2 or 3 uses it now crashes everytime I open my mailbox. Unfortunately I haven't had time to try to debug it or fix it...

I also must admit that I don't find modest very usable - I believe there have been at least bug fixes to it in PR 1.2, but I doubt there have been major changes.

This is really cool.
Its dead easy to install and setup but it's a little complicated to configure to individual taste. You will need to use your stylus as it is really a desktop app. It is chock full of features I would expect from an email client and more. It even has plugins and there are several to chose from. But overall I am quite impressed so far.

I have setup 5 imap accounts and 1 pop3. I have set it up to flash the LED, chime a bell and show a banner when email arrives. It seems to integrate well with the desktop. It uses very little CPU. It shows number of read ad unread emails, emails with attachments, and highlights unread emails. You can sift through inbox, sent, drafts, trash, junk and more. I can see email attachments (JPG so far) no problem.

It takes a bit of geting used to but this is by far a much better email client. I am going to disable Modest and use Claws for a few days and see how things go.

The fact that I was able to find an alterative shows the power of the n900 via Linux and Open Source apps. Impressive!
